Diving holidays at Fundu lagoon, Pemba, Zanzibar
Fundu Lagoon is a PADI 5 Star Gold Palm resort with its own fully equipped dive facility, Dive 710The emphasis is on getting the most out of the sport whilst retaining respect for the environment and diver safety. Fundu Lagoon has its own first rate dive centre as well as a range of water sports and other activities.
The rarely dived waters around Pemba are among the richest and most exciting in the world. Walls of pristine coral stretching for mile upon mile are home to a vast range of marine life and provide some of the most exhilarating drift diving in East Africa. Pemba is one of the top dive sites in the world and our isolated location is a best-kept secret.
The shores around Pemba also offer excellent snorkelling in aquamarine waters and Dive 710 offer all the PADI courses from 'Discover Scuba Diving' to 'Dive Master'.
DIVE 710 is run by Andrew Murphy and Filbert Nathan, PADI instructors with many years experience both in Pemba and worldwide
The team provides expert training and insider knowledge on all aspects of diving. Our two dive boats can take up to eight divers each and are capable of the necessary speed to bring every dive site on Pemba within easy reach of Fundu Lagoon.
The dive centre is fully equipped with BCDs (Mares), Reg. Sets (ScubaPro), as well as wetsuits, masks, fins and snorkels. We would recommend using 3mm wetsuits. Most dives are carried out as drift dives since currents are almost always present. All our dives are guided either by an Instructor or Divemaster and group numbers are kept small making our safety record second to none.
The tiny villages of Pemba have had little impact on the coastal waters surrounding the island.
The area is typified by turquoise shallows and plunging coral walls that can drop to depths of over 100 meters. Visibility averages between 20 and 40 meters. Water temperatures are between 27C and 28C, dropping to 25C in the winter time.
These waters are home for thousands of brightly coloured reef fish and the large pelagic fish that hunt amongst them. Napoleon Wrasse swim side by side with tuna, jacks, wahoo and shoals of barracuda. Mantra and eagle rays frequent the area. Hawksbill and green turtles swim, rest and eat on the reefs. Garden eels, star fish, molluscs and crustaceans are all at home in the vibrant surroundings of corals and sponges.
